Here’s what you need to know:
Man Utd star Alejandro Garnacho has posted on social media after the club’s latest Premier League defeat.
Alejandro Garnacho has shared his true thoughts on Manchester United’s latest top-flight defeat against Wolves.
Hopes were high heading into the match at Old Trafford after United’s heroic comeback against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals. Unfortunately, Ruben Amorim’s side were not able to carry their energy from Thursday night’s game as they fell flat against a revitalised Wolves team.
Pablo Sarabia’s superbly curled free-kick on the 77th minute mark was all Wolves needed to claim the three points away from home. After the Europa League quarter-final win, Amorim said his focus would be on European football, although the Old Trafford faithful surely won’t want him to completely forget about the Premier League.
The defeat to the Midlands-based team was United’s fourth league game in a row without a win. Within those four games, Amorim’s squad has only been able to score one goal. Despite another poor showing, Garnacho believes his team didn’t just give in.
The Argentina international uploaded a photo of him looking distraught on the pitch on to his Instagram story with the caption: “We tried, recover this week, important part of the season for us is coming.”
The stats from the match outline that the United squad clearly did try and, perhaps, deserved a better result. They had 60 per cent possession, triple the shots of their opposition, while they also completed nearly 200 passes more. But Wolves did the only thing that really matters – they scored.
Garnacho is certainly right in saying it’s an important part of the season coming up for the squad.
Their last hope of success this season lies in the Europa League. They will play Athletic Club in the semi-finals, with the first-leg kicking off on May 1, before the return match at Old Trafford is then played on May 8.
