Shoppers are begging for the return of a major retailer that has been teasing a big return.

Topshop officially began closing its in-person doors in 2020 after its parent company Arcadia Group suffered financial difficulties. But although the physical shutters closed, the Topshop brand remained very much alive.

With its own dedicated page on the huge online retailer ASOS’ app and website, Topshop never really went anywhere despite the high street stores closing. The Topshop brand can also be found online at Secret Label as well as ASOS.

When ASOS acquired the Topshop brand in February 2021 it was part of the deal that the stores would be permanently closed and they would only sell their products online.

And now, the Topshop brand appears to be launching again as a standalone store, with a website already having been set up by ASOS which reads: “TOPSHOP. Coming soon. Watch this space.”

ASOS confirmed last year when they stated: “Within the next six months, we will re-launch Topshop.com, giving the brand an opportunity to further expand its customer base.”

Now, over the past few days, Topshop has been sharing some cryptic posts on social media which has sent shoppers into a frenzy after the caption of three posts read out: “We’ll see you IRL in August”.

Under one of the posts, Instagram user Rai Cambell commented: “Please be an actual shop, I’m done with online shopping.”, and Laura Hair Beauty wrote: “So excited”.

The Happy Stylist commented: “Arrghhhhhhhhhh I can’t take this”, and Yasmin87 said: “Bring back Topshop to the high street plsssss”. Other comments include: “We all need you back on our high street!”, and “This all sounds like building works on Oxford st”.

In March, Topshop posted “we missed you too” across its channels, followed by a series of screenshots showing media speculation about a physical comeback.

Last year Asos sold a 75% stake in the Topshop and Topman brands to Bestseller, reported the Retail Gazette.

No official details of any store openings have been confirmed. However, the August reference over Instagram would suggest a potential summer launch, which would mark the brand’s first return to the high street since going into administration in 2021.
