Things are over for Billy and Dawn as she makes a fresh start with Joe Tate

Emmerdale fans said Billy “deserves better” after Dawn broke up with him as she realised she had fallen in love with Joe Tate.

Since Joe turned up in the village last year, his affections for Dawn grew stronger and the pair began an affair behind Billy’s back.

During Thursday’s (17th April) hour long instalment, Dawn promised Joe that she’d call things off with husband Billy Fletcher after she fell in love during their affair.

Kim was horrified to learn that she would be leaving Billy, but soon realised she couldn’t talk Dawn out of her decision.

While sat in the Woolpack pub, Dawn told Kim that she can’t live this life with a man she no longer loves in the same way and that’s why she’s chosen Joe.

Later, Dawn sat Billy down and said “I couldn’t ask for a better husband… I want you always to be in their [the kids] lives… I’m so sorry, I can’t do it anymore, Billy. You and me. I just can’t.”

As Billy was in shock over what to say, Dawn attempted to comfort him as she told him they couldn’t save the relationship, and it was time to end things.

He then asked Dawn to tell him who she was seeing behind his back, assuming that there had to be someone else for her to suddenly want to end their marriage.

Of course, Dawn refused to give up Joe’s name and tried to reassure him that there was no one else, it just wasn’t right for her anymore.

The scene then cut to Joe admitting everything to Kim, including that he really loves Dawn and if she ever found out what happened it would “break her”.

Fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter), as @lorimeganxo wrote: “billy my king you deserve none of this x” as @SarahRobron added: “Dawn has treated Billy like sh** for months. Now she’s dumping him and not even admitting why and what she’s done. Billy has never been my fave character but he deserves better.”

@mikepriestley13 noted: “Dawn has split up with Billy to be with Joe that has been lying to her” as @RhysThompson5 echoed: “Poor Billy! Doesn’t deserve this. Go for custody of the kids she doesn’t care or deserve them”.
