Man United have been one of several clubs linked with a summer move for talented Lyon forward Rayan Cherki.

Manchester United have been handed an update on Lyon forward Rayan Cherki amid links with a move to Old Trafford.

Recent reports in The Sun have claimed that cash-strapped Lyon will not stand in the 21-year-old’s way if he wants to depart this summer. Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund had an offer of £19million turned down for Cherki in January, while Fulham came up short in their attempts to sign him 14 months ago.

Chelsea have also previously been linked as they eye a return to the Champions League under Enzo Maresca. Cherki has scored eight goals and provided 18 assists across all competitions so far this season for Lyon.

And journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in transfers, has confirmed that the French forward has a release clause in his current Lyon contract. It has been claimed that the cause would cost an English club £25m.

“Yes, but it’s not an “easy” clause,” Romano said in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport. “Lyon insist there are certain conditions to be met, so it’s not that simple. In any case, for me, it’s a potential bargain as he is an excellent talent.”

The France youth international was ostracised at the start of last season amid a contract standoff. His deal had been set to expire at the end of last season; however, he extended it by a further year, allowing his reintegration into Lyon’s team.

But the club’s president John Textor has already admitted that Cherki’s future at the Ligue 1 club is uncertain.

“We lost €15m (around £13m) from his sale last summer… but his value is now way higher,” Textor said (via Fabrizio Romano on X).

“He should stay in January but it’s up to Rayan. He decides what he wants to do.”
