The latest Manchester City transfer news amid fresh reports about what appears to be a three-way race for Florian Wirtz, alongside Bayern Munich and Real Madrid

Florian Wirtz reportedly would find playing for Manchester City very tempting despite his agent and father negotiating secretly with Bayern Munich.

Wirtz is a player on City’s shortlist of replacements for the departing Kevin De Bruyne and someone they would love to sign during the summer transfer window. However, they are not alone in admiring the reigning Bundesliga player of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen won their first-ever top-flight title at Bayern’s expense last season, and the Bavarians have made known their interest in the Germany international. Real Madrid are another club credited with an interest in wanting to sign Wirtz.

The Daily Briefing claims the player would be very tempted to play for either City or the Spanish side. However, Bayern are said to believe that they have an advantage in the race.

Their supervisory board reportedly negotiated with Hans-Joachim Wirtz recently, the player’s agent and father. He and Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness are said to get on well, having now met multiple times.

While that may give them an edge, there are questions about whether they can afford Leverkusen’s asking price. Their contemporaries reportedly want at least €150million (£129m) to do business, per BILD.

Hoeness acknowledged last week that Thomas Muller is leaving the club this summer because of their economic situation. “Bayern clearly have to save,” he conceded in an interview with Welt am Sonntag.

“There is not much left in our fixed-deposit account. We have to rethink our financial approach.”

However, the club would “under certain circumstances, go to the bank’s credit department” to finance significant signings, which would be a first for them. This latest report claims they would be willing to do so for Wirtz.

Such a show of faith is said to honour his family. But the race is reportedly still wide open.
