Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore is set to return to Rotherham after recovering from a foot injury.

Gore joined Rotherham on loan for the remainder of the season in the winter transfer window and looked sharp when he made his debut for the League One club against Birmingham.

However, Gore picked up a foot problem during a training session in the build-up to Rotherham’s following game, and he returned to Carrington for treatment on a hairline fracture.

After his return to Manchester, Gore issued a statement and admitted he was “absolutely gutted” to have picked up the issue. “Having loved the start to my time here and been made to feel so welcome by everyone at the club, I am absolutely gutted to have picked up an injury,” he said.

“Everyone who knows me knows that I would play through any pain if I physically could, but unfortunately, I need to take a few weeks out. I’ll be giving everything to get back as soon as possible to contribute to the team and be able to play in front of the fans again.”

Two months later, Gore is almost ready to play for Rotherham again. He is set to attend their game against Mansfield on Friday and will resume training with his loan club at the weekend.

Rotherham’s newly appointed manager, Matt Hanshaw, said via the Rotherham Advertiser: “We’ll get a full week into him [Gore] after that and look to give him some minutes at Stevenage.”

Gore has suffered a rotten spell of bad luck with injuries. He picked up an injury in his first game on loan with Port Vale last season and subsequently suffered a freak shoulder injury.

Gore made his first-team debut at United in October 2023 and is highly regarded at the club.
