Here’s what you need to know:
Manchester United are still battling with a number of injury issues ahead of their crucial Europa League quarter-final tie against Lyon
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been faced with further injury concerns ahead of a crucial night in the Europa League against Lyon.
The Reds will be without Joshua Zirkzee for the remainder of the campaign after he was forced off against Newcastle on Sunday. Amorim reported that his suspected hamstring injury would not be healed in time for the end of the season in May and, as such, the focus for him has turned to the 2025/26 campaign.
Zirkzee’s issue is the second season-ending injury that United have suffered this season. The first came at the start of February when Lisandro Martinez ruptured his ACL.
Martinez will be working hard to return before the start of next season but as he is expected to miss the entirety of pre-season, he could come back after the Premier League begins. Matthijs de Ligt has been missing since he turned his ankle in the defeat to Nottingham Forest but Amorim has been insistent that the defender will return before the campaign comes to an end.
Ayden Heaven joins De Ligt in the treatment room but his return is forecasted to be soon. The former Arsenal youngster has a knock and while he will miss the clash with Lyon, he could well be back for the weekend’s visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
United have been without Jonny Evans for much of the season but he was visible in open training on Wednesday which could suggest that he may play a part in the game against Lyon. Youngster Toby Collyer is fighting to be back before the beginning of May.
Amorim confirmed the midfielder is suffering with a leg injury and the hope is that he can come back sooner rather than later. One player who seems further along with his recovery is Amad.
The Ivorian had an ankle injury which looked to be a season-ender but he returned to individual training on Wednesday to spark optimism for United supporters. While he will not return in April, he should be back for the run-in in May.
