One of the contestants opened up about their close friendship with the singer

Celebrity Big Brother viewers were full of praise for Chris Hughes after he opened up about his close friendship with JoJo Siwa.

Since entering the Big Brother house, Love Island star Chris Hughes and American singer JoJo Siwa have developed an unexpected alliance.

Much to the occasional annoyance of the other housemates, the pair have been very vocal about their friendship. TOWIE’s Ella Rae Wise even noted to presenter Angellica Bell that they seem to have isolated themselves from the main group.

In recent episodes, the pairing came under fire by Big Brother as they mistakenly broke a house rule for “speaking in code”.

The incident in question saw JoJo attempting to communicate with him in code by writing on his hand in the middle of the night.

As a result of their secret conversation, Chris and JoJo were made speak through a megaphone until Big Brother told them to stop.

The rest of the housemates were furious with the pair, including Olympian Daley Thompson, who made a big accusation as to why Chris and JoJo are so close.

“That’s not a punishment, that’s a punishment for us. They’re laughing because they’re annoying us… You know it’s part of the plan. Every time they get a punishment and all that, they get the airtime.”

Entering the diary room towards the end of the episode, JoJo revealed that she and Chris were discussing her gender identity.

“It’s something that I’m not ready necessarily to be open about or upfront about but it has to do with gender and how do I feel. Let’s put it this way. Oh my God, this is a lot. Essentially, you have female, you have male.

“I’ve met a lot of females and love them but don’t feel like I’m them. Met a lot of males, love them but definitely not them. ‘I’ve met a lot of people in my life that are non-binary and these beautiful non-binary people are who I feel the most like.

“It’s not something that I want to say about myself yet but it’s something that is confusing. So, that’s probably why we were talking about it last night,” she said.

During Wednesday’s (16th April) instalment, Chris headed to the diary room and opened up about his friendship with JoJo. He said: “I’ve started calling her Joseph, I don’t know why, it just comes out of my mouth… If she left the house, ever, and I was stuck in here, that would genuinely be crushing.

“She’s like my person in here. If you walk into a room, or go to a party you don’t know anyone, there’s someone you want to see in the room to make you feel at ease. Their face ignites something within your body to put a smile on your face and you feel at ease… It really brings out me and I like being me.

“It takes someone to get you, we’re like two peas in a pod” before mentioning the spot on his arm that he’ll let JoJo squeeze later on.

Viewers were loving his honesty, and on X (formerly known as Twitter), @Jaimi_Tyrrell wrote: “Chris and JoJo have a genuine friendship. There’s no way you can fake that type of connection” as @slinehan1 added: “I guess I’m in the minority but I’m obsessed with the Chris and JoJo thing so I’m happy about it and idc.”
