Britain’s Got Talent are set to shake things up ready for the semi-finals that will see a twist in the way acts are chosen for the final.

As viewers of the ITV talent show will recall, during the audition process if any of the judges or presenters Ant and Dec enjoy an act then they have the opportunity to press the Golden Buzzer which ensures their place in the semi-final.

This will now be taken into the semi-finals, meaning that anyone from the panel (or Ant and Dec) can save an act from elimination by pressing the buzzer, sending them straight to the final.

The public will then vote for their winning act of the night, who will gain a place in the live final, along with the act that secured the golden buzzer.

It was introduced in 2014, where two of the acts made it to the final. Now, judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli will have another opportunity to see their favourite acts in the final stages of the competition, in the hopes of securing them the win.

The semi-finals will consist of eight acts performing in front of a live audience for the chance to win a £250,000 cash prize and a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance.

During the current series, viewers have already seen 21-year-old singer Linda Mudzenda receive the Golden Buzzer during her audition from Alesha Dixon.

Other contestants that were sent through and will appear in the semi-finals include Scissor swallower Bao Cuong who lifted a microwave while a large pair of scissors was in his mouth, one-armed drummer Cornel Hrisca-Munn, child dance troupe Lil Ms and singer Andy Hindson, who performed a comedy song about his children.

Simon Cowell broke the rules by pressing the Golden Buzzer for the second time after the emotional performance from Electric Umbrella.

The mixed-ability band focused on inclusion and wanted to show that anyone could be involved. Ahead of the performance, their band leader said: “The dream is that organisations like us shouldn’t have to exist. There should be a space for everybody in every part of community.”

At the time, Simon shared: “I feel a wave of goodness here, everything about this was good. For me, this was like being in a movie. It was spectacular.”

Previous years of the hit show have seen acts such as Diversity, Ashleigh and Pudsey, Sydnie Christmas and Paul Potts win the public over as they took home the prize and performed in front of the Royal family.

The semi-finals will air every Saturday night with the first of the series taking palace at the Eventim Apollo in London on April 26 at 7pm and airing on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
