Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been out of action since the FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth at the end of March
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has provided a positive update on his fitness levels as he looks to return sooner rather than later for the Blues.
City supporters were instinctively concerned when Haaland was forced off with an ankle injury during the victory over AFC Bournemouth in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. The hope was that the Norwegian’s issue was not serious and, as such, he would be available to return for Pep Guardiola before the end of the campaign.
Shortly after suffering the injury, City released the following statement: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered an injury to his left ankle. Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury.
“Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
“Everyone at the club wishes Erling a speedy recovery.” Since then, news of his possible return has been limited, until today.
Taking to Instagram at 4pm on Wednesday, Haaland shared a video of himself jogging in the City players’ private gym at their training ground. While he was jogging tentatively, the 24-year-old appeared to complete the drill without any major difficulties.
As he returned to the camera that was perched at one end of the track, Haaland told his followers: “We’re getting there,” while smiling down the lens. Though the Premier League title is out of sight, there are still a number of major honours to play for before the new campaign begins.
In the Premier League, the battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League remains a close run contest and they are still in the FA Cup. After the regular campaign ends, there is also the small matter of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States to prepare for as the Blues look to retain their crown.
