Quick overview:
There are hundreds of health conditions that could make you eligible for PIP
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has released the latest figures, revealing that 3.7 million people across Great Britain are now receiving additional financial aid through the Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
In the 2025/26 fiscal year, PIP will offer weekly support ranging from £29.20 to £187.45, equating to £116.80 or £749.80 every four-week pay period. Both disability benefits aim to assist with the extra costs associated with living with a disability, long-term illness, or physical or mental health condition.
However, it’s not beneficial to list all 536 conditions noted by the DWP during the PIP application process. This is because an award for the disability benefit is determined by how a person’s health condition impacts their ability to carry out daily living tasks such as cooking, washing, eating, dressing, and interacting with others in a safe and timely manner.
Awards are also available to help those who have difficulty moving around, reports the Daily Record. Every claim for PIP is unique to each applicant, which could potentially assist those considering making a new claim.
Here’s a comprehensive overview of PIP, including the five most claimed conditions and the main disabling conditions, as categorised by the DWP.

Who might qualify for PIP?
To be eligible for PIP, you must have a health condition or disability where you have had difficulties with daily living or getting around (or both) for three months and expect these difficulties to continue for at least nine months. You typically need to have resided in the UK for at least two of the past three years and be in the country when you apply.
In addition to what we’ve outlined above, if your condition requires or necessitates help with any of the following, you should consider applying for PIP.
It will assess how challenging you find daily living and mobility tasks. For each task, they will examine:.
- whether you can do it safely
- how long it takes you
- how often your condition affects this activity
- whether you need help to do it, from a person or using extra equipment
