Marks and Spencer shoppers are heaping praise on a pair of budget-friendly trousers that are ‘perfect’ for spring and summer here in the UK or worn on holiday abroad. Those who have already gotten their hands on the bottoms love them so much, they’re begging the retailer to stock them in more colours.

The Pure Twill Printed High Waisted Tapered Trousers come in at a reasonable £25 and are currently available in two colours. Shoppers can pick them in ecru or khaki prints in extra short, petite, regular and long lengths in sizes six to 24.

Cut in a tapered fit with an elasticated high waist, the trousers are equal part comfortable and flattering. A drawstring fastening adds a custom feel, while side pockets and mock back pockets bring a polished finish.

Thanks to their versatile design. the trousers, which ‘wash well’, can be worn to the office with a white blouse or styed more casually. You could wear them with trainers or flats or pair them with heels and wedges.

The M&S Collection Pure Twill Printed High Waisted Tapered Trousers have racked up four reviews so far, with all but one being glowing. The first shopper said: “Super fit, great material, nicely made – unusual pattern which is perfect.”

A second wrote: “Summer weight trousers. They don’t seem to crease, will be good for holidays.” Somebody else mentioned: “I bought 18 in regular in both colours and although I could have got away with length as fell just below ankle, I prefer them an inch longer.”

“I have ordered the long length as they are tapered at the legs they are looser around the hips to give a tapered look at the bottom. I found them true to size but depending if you like a looser fit around the waist then I suggest you order a size up.

“If you want them to sit on waist without tying them order your normal size. Wash well. M&S Please do more colours.”

But one M&S customer gave the Pure Twill Printed High Waisted Tapered Trousers a three-star review, writing: “The trousers were a strange shape in the body part, very long. Would be uncomfortable to wear.”

If there’s more room in your budget, Boden also offers a range of funky trousers. The Wide Leg Pull-on Trousers in Rich Emerald, Ornate Bud, are on sale for £48, and the Kew Printed Trousers have been reduced to £38 instead of £95. At Next, the Black Print Wide Leg Trousers with Linen cost £25.
