Man Utd lost 4-1 against Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday, despite going into half-time with the game level.
Dan Burn was delighted with Newcastle’s performance in their victory at St James’ Park on Sunday, adding that he is “not a massive fan of Manchester United”.
United were looking to return to winning ways and a great goal from Alejandro Garnacho in the 37th minute meant the game was 1-1 at half-time.
Newcastle scored just four minutes into the second half through Harvey Barnes. Shortly after that, the winger scored again to make it 3-1 and Bruno Guimaraes added another after a mistake from Altay Bayindir, which condemned United to a 14th defeat of the Premier League season.
The result meant Newcastle did the league double over United for the first time since 1930/31, which Burn was asked about when he spoke to Premier League Productions.
“Good. I’ve said before, I’m not a massive fan of Man United. I can’t remember the last time we’d have done the double over them – I wasn’t born then,” said Burn.
“Top performance, I thought. From the start, we set out what we wanted to do. We didn’t have the gaffer there so we really wanted to put in a performance that he’d be proud of.
“And I’m sure he’ll be happy with it. We’ve had a few slow starts to second halves and let teams back in it. We’ve had to sit back and be a bit deeper, and physically we really want to try and punish teams and suck the energy out of them. I thought we did that well today.
“The higher up you win the ball, the fewer passes to get to goal. That was the plan. They went long quite a lot in the first half but they didn’t get a lot of joy out of it, so we knew we’d be able to force a few mistakes and the lads were clinical today.”
Newcastle comfortably won 2-0 at Old Trafford in December. Joshua Zirkzee was hooked in the first half of that game and he pulled up with a suspected hamstring injury at St James’ Park on Sunday.
Speaking to MUTV, Ruben Amorim confirmed that Zirkzee will be out for “some games.”
