Latest Manchester United transfer news as Liam Delap’s future continues to be one of the most highly-contested sagas ahead of the summer

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has claimed that Liam Delap is “nailed on” to sign for Manchester United in the summer despite interest from Champions League clubs.

United are understood to be keen on signing the Ipswich Town star at the end of the season as part of Ruben Amorim’s plan to improve his side’s goal-scoring problems.

Since the March international break concluded, United have failed to score in their last two Premier League games. Their lack of clinical edge in the final third has been a constant issue this season and United are expected to address it.

Recent reports have claimed that Delap has a £30million release clause in his contract, which will become active if Ipswich are relegated from the Premier League. The striker has scored 11 goals in his first season in the top-flight and is wanted by a host of teams with Chelsea also monitoring the situation.

However, Deeney has placed doubts over a move to Stamford Bridge for Delap with his spot in the England squad a key factor in his decision-making. “He has to play [to get into the England squad] right? So his next step, if I was advising him, would be to go where you would play,” he said on talkSPORT.

“Man United, it’s nailed on. If he went to Man United, he’d start every week. He’d instantly make them better.”

Despite Deeney’s stance being music to the ears of United fans, the former striker has pointed towards a part of his game that he must address in the future. He added: “He can be whatever he wants – he has everything. I think, at the moment, my biggest concern is his temperament, he gets caught up in trying to prove his physicality.

“I remember watching him up against Everton earlier on in the season and (James) Tarkowski gave him a little bit and the rest of the game he was out of it because he just wanted to give it back. That’s a bit of immaturity but that will change as he grows.”
