Latest Manchester United transfer news as Matheus Cunha’s rocky relationship with Wolves supporters continues with a host of social media jibes

Manchester United transfer target Matheus Cunha has responded to criticism from Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters following a supposed ‘deleted’ post on social media.

Cunha is reportedly wanted by United ahead of the summer transfer window in a bid to improve Ruben Amorim’s attack. The Brazilian has been one of Wolves’ best players in recent years, scoring 25 Premier League goals in 58 appearances.

Despite signing a new contract at Molineux earlier this season, the 25-year-old is expected to move away from the Black Country with a £62.5million release clause in his current deal.

Earlier this season, the forward spoke of his desire to challenge himself and making the next step in his career. “I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” he told the Guardian in March.

“Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

“But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”

This week, Cunha returns from his suspension after being sent off in the FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth. In his absence, Wolves have won three and avoided defeat in four with head coach Vitor Pereira confirming that he would stick with the same XI.

Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham, Cunha was involved in another controversial incident that has left Wolves fans furious. A screenshot of an Instagram story allegedly uploaded by the attacker before quickly being deleted, read: “Time to be happy. I will follow my dreams, not yours… So stay cool.”

A number of social media pages following Wolves shared the screenshot and one was met with two replies from Cunha. Replying to @TalkingWolves on Instagram, the Brazilian wrote: “HAHHAHAHAHA,” before adding another reply 10 minutes later.

“Do you know what you want? For people to not like me here, unfortunately I’m going to the field to solve the problem of your favourite club,” he added. “I’m not here looking for alternatives to be someone important. Fans root for their own, they don’t create misfortunes all the time.”
