Workers across the country who have experienced an accident while at work could be eligible for over £225 a week.

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) is a benefit from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) designed at supporting workers who either became ill or disabled as a direct result of an accident or disease from work or while on an approved employment training scheme or course.

How much a worker gets from the benefit will depend on the results of an assessment from a medical advisor. This individual will place the level of disability the worker is at from 1% to 100%.

The benefit will pay the following amounts based on the following disablement percentage:

  • 20% – £45.06
  • 30% – £67.59
  • 40% – £90.12
  • 50% – £112.65
  • 60% – £135.18
  • 70% – £157.71
  • 80% – £180.24
  • 90% – £202.77
  • 100% – £225.30

Who is eligible for IIDB?

You can claim IIDB if you experienced an accident or disease at work. However, there are some criteria that must be met in each of these categories

Accidents

In order to be eligible, the accident you experienced at work must have taken place when you were employed when the accident happened, were on an approved employment training scheme or course and it took place in England, Scotland or Wales.

Diseases

IIDB covers over 70 diseases that are eligible for the benefit. This can include:

  • deafness
  • chronic bronchitis or emphysema – also known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Dupuytren’s contracture
  • asthma
  • prescribed disease A11 (previously known as vibration white finger)
  • osteoarthritis of the knee in coal miners
  • pneumoconiosis (including silicosis and asbestosis)

A full list of illnesses covered can be found here.

How to apply

In order to apply for IIDB, you will need to fill in either a Bl100A form for an accident or a BL100PD form for diseases. This form can either be printed online or you can request it from the Barnsley Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit centre by dialling 0800 121 8379.

Once the form has been sent off as assessment of the information you provided will take place. In some cases you may need to have a face to face medical assessment to progress your claim.

The Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS) will contact you if this is the case and will set up an appointment that you must attend.
