Larry Lamb has described the moment he stood up during the wedding scene in the Gavin and Stacey finale as the ‘most emotional’ of his career.

The 77-year-old has been appearing on our screens for five decades, but is now turning his hand to writing fiction.

All Wrapped Up, which hits shelves on 15 April, gives an inside look at the industry; the trials, tribulations, and hard won successes of producing a piece of cinema.

The novel follows the story of a film production under fire amidst political turmoil on a Caribbean Island.

Blending sharp dialogue, rich behind-the-scenes detail, and the grit of a top-notch crew, All Wrapped Up is described as a compelling portrait of the chaos of independent filmmaking.

In the latest episode of Kate Thornton’s podcast, White Wine Question Time, the veteran actor opened up on his feelings surrounding the end of one of the country’s most-loved shows, and shares the secret to the success of Mick and Pam Shipman’s relationship.

During the chat, host Kate reflected on how the moment Mick stood up in the church to object to the marriage of Smithy and Sonia felt like a ‘full stop’ moment for the character.

Lamb agreed that the power of that moment and what it meant to the character made it one of the ‘most emotional’ of his acting career.

“I was joking with someone the other day,” he added. “It was like, 50 years as an actor, and I have a scene where I don’t say anything and all I got to do is stand up, right? I get more feedback off that than I’ve had out of 50 years of acting.”

“I was never convinced that it was going to be the end,” Lamb continued. “Now that it’s all done, there’s a sense of relief and a sense of contentment that the story is told.

“I feel no frustration about wanting to go on with it. I feel their story is told.”

Lamb also opened up on the impact the character of Mick Shipman had on his own personality.

“I just became a much more bearable person to be around and much more bearable for me to live with, because all the angst and all that stuff, you just start to think, you’ve had a good run, you’re heading into the seniors now.

“And I remember George, my boy, saying to me, look, you’re an old geezer now, you know, you’re an old man, right? You’re into your 70s. You better start learning to enjoy it.

“That’s one thing that dear old Mick always gave the impression of doing,” he added. “Which is enjoying himself.

“He’s a happy go lucky guy. You deal with problems when they crop up. You don’t sit around waiting for problems, and if they happen, you sort of apply a level mind to them.”

One of the constants throughout the show is the unconditional and everlasting love that Pam and Mick share for each other.

On this, the former Triangle star said: “You’ve got to learn how to be a diplomat. You’ve got to learn how to love her (Pam) despite the fact she drives you round the bend.

“They’re absolutely madly in love. There’s nothing that’s going to rock their boat, you know.

“Pick your battles. I think the thing is that what they wrote was this absolutely perfect couple who know how to work around each other no matter what goes on. And at the base of it is a deep respect and love.”

All Wrapped Up is available to pre-order on Amazon and WH Smith.
