It’s back to European action for Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United team tonight (Thursday) as they take on Ligue 1 side Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash.

The competition is United’s final chance of both picking up silverware this season and also qualifying for Europe again for the 2025/26 campaign. Winning the competition would see them qualify for the Champions League next year.

It’s been a disappointing domestic season for United so far with the team currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League table. But the team will be looking for more success on the European stage.

First, they must get past Lyon in the final eight. Ahead of the game there has already been a war of words between former United midfielder Nemanja Matic and current goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Amorim has named his squad for the game, but he still has some decisions to make. Ahead of the match, four players have hinted that they could potentially be part of the starting XI.

Winger Alejandro Garnacho has shared a pre-match graphic on his Instagram story, which usually hints at involvement at least in the squad. The 20-year-old has been a regular in the starting lineup for the last few weeks.

The same can be said about defender Leny Yoro. The centre-back has also shared a pre-match graphic on his own personal Instagram story, with the club sending an extra hint on his involvement by him being the player featured on the club’s pre-match graphic.

Two more players in Diogo Dalot and Casemiro have also shared graphics on their stories, hinting at their involvement in the match. While Dalot has been a regular for United under Amorim, Casemiro has been in and out of the starting XI under the Portuguese boss.

United will be hoping to get an advantage in the first leg to take to the home leg which takes place on Thursday, 17 April at Old Trafford (8pm kick-off). In between the two legs, United travel to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm kick-off).
