Liam Delap has previously revealed that Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo was one of his idols growing up amid transfer links.

According to reports, the 22-year-old has been made the number one transfer target at Old Trafford as they look to strengthen their attacking option.

Rasmus Holjund and Joshua Zirkzee haven’t hit the heights that their hefty moves to the Premier League warranted. This season, Erik ten Hag and his successor Ruben Amorim has suffered in front of goals, with the Portuguese enduring a torrid opening months to his time in the hotseat.

United have been linked with a host of strikers, including a reunion with Amorim for prolific Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres, as well as Victor Osimhen and Hugo Etikite.

However, both the Daily Mail and ESPN have claimed that the Ipswich Town striker is on the radar at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ipswich Town are facing immediate relegation to the Championship, after ending their hiatus from the top-flight last season, but the English youngster has been one o the standout performers for the Tractor Boys.

The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 30 appearances during his breakout season in the Premier League and his debut campaign exploits has attracted a host of interest from Premier League clubs.

And reports suggest the towering forward is a priority for United and he has previously admitted that Ronaldo was one of his idols growing up.

“It was always Cristiano [Ronaldo],” he said. “When I was young, I idolised him as a little boy and growing up I was all focused on him. Now in recent years you’re looking at Harry Kane, what he has done is incredible.

“I’ve always had in my mind that I love scoring goals and love the feeling of scoring goals, so for me to be anything other than a striker was not the one.”

He added: “It’s gone really positively for me. At the start of the season, I knew I had confidence and belief that I could score and it’s credit to the manager and the boys for helping me improve day in, day out in training.

“Getting there [to nine goals] is obviously an individual stat but without the team behind me I wouldn’t have been able to do it.

“The quality was there and I had the belief that I knew I could perform. The boys and the manager to show their belief in me has also helped.

“I knew coming here was going to be a good place and I’ve probably been pleasantly surprised with how happy I am here and how much I’m enjoying it.

“The gaffer spoke and said it’s up to me depending on the performance that you put in. We’ve got George [Hirst] and had Ali [Al-Hamadi] who are two good strikers so it’s always good to have competition. As long as I’m doing well then hopefully I can keep playing.”
