An ex-Premier League star will be opening a padel centre in Salford. Padel16 will be coming to Worsley Sports Club next month.

Owned by professional footballer and ex-Liverpool striker Fabio Borini, working alongside local businessman Anthony Bingham, Padel16 says its mission is to restore and transform local sports clubs, offering communities a refreshed space to connect, compete and socialise.

Padel, one of the fastest growing sports in the world, will be a flagship new project in plans to rejuvenate Worsley Sports Club.

The launch of Padel16 marks the first phase of a larger project aimed at breathing new life back into the club.

According to organisers, the revenue generated from the padel court will be reinvested into the club.

The hope is for the move to ensure sustained development, enhance community engagement, and support continuous improvements to the facilities.

“Padel16 is about much more than just offering a fun, fast paced sport. It’s about giving back to the community and rebuilding the club for the future,” said Borini, the driving force behind the project.“By putting the money back into the club, we’re not only creating a new space for the community to enjoy, we’re also laying the foundation for its future.

“This is just the start – we have big plans to expand, evolve and build an exciting hub for everyone in the area.”

As well as the court, a barista coffee station and a unique dining experience for club members and visitors has also been planned for the transformation.

Jane Howarth, at Worsley Sports Club, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with Padel16 to bring something innovative and exciting to our club.

“Padel is a totally new concept for us and it marks a new chapter in the club’s future.

“We are excited to see it thrive alongside our long-established existing sports, bowling, cricket, tennis and croquet all played in the most incredible setting.”

Padel16 will open its courts on May 4 2025 at Worsley Sports Club.
