Laurie Shaw is reportedly set to join Liverpool as the club’s new chief scientist later this year
Liverpool are reportedly set to appoint Laurie Shaw as their new chief scientist when his gardening leave at the City Football Group ends later this year.
Shaw worked as the director of football data at the CFG – who own Manchester City, Girona and New York City – but after leaving the organisation in January, is set to join the Reds.
According to the Liverpool ECHO, Shaw will work under the director of research, Will Spearman, at Anfield.

The ECHO claims that despite reports elsewhere, Shaw’s role will be specific to football operations at Anfield, not Fenway Sports Groups’ other sporting interests.
Shaw initially joined the CFG as the head of AI in 2021 before later being appointed as the conglomerate’s director of football data in late 2023.
Earlier this season, Manchester City confirmed that Txiki Begiristainwill step away from his director of football at the end of the season after more than a decade at the Etihad.
Begiristain will step down from his position at the Blues after the Club World Cup campaign this summer and will be replaced by Hugo Viana.
On Monday, the Manchester Evening News revealed that Viana will spend the next three months working alongside Begiristain.
After Sunday’s stalemate against Manchester United at Old Trafford, City face the prospect of failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time under Pep Guardiola.
City are currently one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea and face Crystal Palace and Everton in their next two Premier League games.
