Gina-Maria, the daughter of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, has given birth to her first child

Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher has been blessed with the joy of becoming a grandfather, as his daughter Gina-Maria and her husband Iain Bethke, who tied the knot last year, have introduced their first child to the world.

Gina-Maria took to Instagram to share the delightful news, announcing that their daughter Millie was born on March 29. She expressed her elation with heartfelt words: “Welcome to the world, Millie. Born on March 29, our hearts are fuller than ever. We are beyond blessed to have you in our lives.”

The announcement comes as a beacon of happiness for the Schumacher family amidst the challenges they’ve faced since Michael’s tragic ski accident over a decade ago, which left the seven-time Formula 1 champion with severe injuries.

Schumacher, who hung up his racing gloves in 2012 after an illustrious career and a brief return with Mercedes, suffered life-changing injuries in a skiing incident in the French Alps in 2013.

He spent time in a medically induced coma and underwent extensive hospital care. Now at home, Schumacher continues his rehabilitation under constant medical supervision, with the unwavering support of his wife Corinna and a team of healthcare professionals.

The Schumacher family had much to celebrate last year, particularly Gina-Maria. She tied the knot with Bethke at their family villa in Majorca last September and announced three months later that they were expecting a baby.

Gina-Maria is one of two children of legendary German racer Michael Schumacher. Her brother Mick has followed in his father’s Formula 1 footsteps, driving for Haas for two years.

The arrival of newborn Millie marks Schumacher’s first grandchild. Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, has been unwavering in her commitment to preserving her husband’s privacy following his devastating skiing accident in December 2013.

Only a select few trusted individuals have been allowed to visit him or are privy to the sensitive details of his condition.

In keeping with this respect for privacy, Schumacher has not made any public appearances since his accident over ten years ago.

There were whispers that he attended his daughter’s wedding last year, but no confirmation was ever given. Guests attending the wedding were asked to leave their mobile phones with security before entering the venue.

This precaution ensured that no unauthorised photos or videos could be taken within the villa, which the family bought from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in 2017 for a reported £27million.
