A new BBC thriller is airing tonight starring Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis.

Reunion is a four-part thriller revolving around Daniel, a deaf man recently released from prison after serving ten years for the murder of his friend Ray.

The new series aims to authentically represent the deaf community by boasting a diverse cast, including deaf and hearing actors, and incorporates spoken English and British Sign Language (BSL).

Rose Ayling-Ellis, who became the first deaf person to win BBC Strictly Come Dancing, stars in the new show as Miri, someone impacted by the death of Ray.

BBC’s synopsis for the first episode reads: “Deaf man Daniel Brennan is leaving prison after ten isolating years inside and is now a man on a mission for revenge. Shunned by his parents and community, Brennan has nothing left to lose, until he is reunited with his estranged daughter, Carly. His concern for her means his plans have to change.”

What is Reunion about?

Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney, served ten years in prison for murdering his friend, Jay. Upon his release, Daniel struggles to reintegrate back into society and after getting shunned by both the hearing and deaf communities, Brennan is determined to uncover the truth behind the events that led to his incarceration.

The new thriller also explores Brennan’s attempts to reconnect with his daughter Carly, played by Lara Peake, while Ray’s widow Christine, played by Anne Marie Duff, and their deaf daughter Miri, played by Rose Ayling-Ellis, grapple with his release, leading to the resurfacing of long-buried secrets.

All four episodes of Reunion are available to watch on BBC iPlayer now, with the episodes airing on BBC One from 9pm tonight, April 7. The second episode will air tomorrow night at 9pm, the third on Monday April 14 and the final episode on Tuesday April 15.

All are between 55 minutes and an hour long.
