French animation company OuiDO Productions has acquired the episodic division of Mikros Animation as well as Technicolor Animation Productions, which was the IP division of the late Technicolor. The feature animation division of Mikros was acquired by Rodeo FX, which we reported last week.
The deal is full circle for Boris Hertzog. He co-founded OuiDO with Sandrine Nguyen-Tiet a decade-and-a-half ago, and that company eventually was acquired by Technicolor and became Technicolor Animation Productions (TAP). Hertzog was TAP’s managing director and CEO until three years ago.
In a statement on Linkedin, Hertzog said, “It’s a return to our roots… but more importantly, the beginning of a new chapter: OuiDO 2.0… The context may be challenging, but our ambition remains the same: to create, to innovate, to dream and to realize meaningful projects with all the energy that drives us.”
TAP’s productions include five seasons of Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks, two seasons of Sonic Boom, and one season of The Coop Troop. Additionally, the studio developed titles such as Team Dronix, Les Légendaires, Mini Wolf, Gus the Itsy Bitsy Knight, and Moncchichi Tribe.
Mikros Animation’s series projects include the Disney Jr. series Magicampers and Paramount+’s Star Trek: Prodigy. It has also contributed to a number of the Technicolor series listed above.
Hertzog tells Cartoon Brew that OuiDO is rehiring former Mikros and Technicolor Animation workers, primarily from the creative, development, and production management teams. Around 50 people are being rehired from the former companies.
The new OuiDO will be supported by the distribution arm of Moon-Keys International Content, co-founded by Cédric and Yvan Depierre. Hertzog is also the president of Moon-Keys.
OuiDo’s majority shareholder is Lift Value, a company that Hertzog also co-founded. The purchase of Technicolor’s assets was supported by CYD Partners.
