A stunning Stephen Graham film from the director of Adolescence is on TV tonight (Sunday April 6) for free across the UK.

Released on Netflix last month, the drama tells the story of 13-year-old Jamie Miller’s family dealing with him being accused of killing his female classmate.

Each of the four episodes released were filmed in one-shot, meaning that everything you see on screen was captured without any cuts or camera tricks.

By doing this, the series brought viewers inside what happens in UK police stations, schools, children’s mental-health facilities and homes.

Quickly becoming the most talked about show of the year to date, the series is going to begin being shown in UK schools.

Prior to making Adolescence, Stephen and director Philip Barantini joined forces to bring Boiling Point to the screen in 2022.

Based on a 2019 short film of the same name, the one-shot film set in a restaurant kitchen as Stephen’s chef Andy faces his demons on a fateful night.

Embarrassed to learn that his restaurant has been downgraded from a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 to a 3 following an audit by a food inspector, Andy fights to save the restaurant amidst his financial woes and substance abuse issues.

Simarly to Adolescence, the cast is rounded out by a number of smaller actors, including Vinette Robinson, Ray Panthaki and Hannah Walters.

Premiering three years ago, Boiling Point was nominated for Outstanding British Film, Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Casting at the BAFTAs.

Boasting a strong score of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 67 critics’ reviews, Boiling Point is one of the best reviewed UK films of recent years.

Looking to expand on the world, a continuation TV series aired on BBC One in October 2023 to further critical acclaim.

Speaking to Radio Times about filming one take projects, Stephen said: “Doing this you combine both disciplines, theatre and television. Without sounding too pretentious, it’s the most Zen and in the moment you can ever be as an actor.

“You have to be ready and in that moment to carry it right the way through – the intensity, the ups, the downs, the highs, the lows.

“You have to have worked it out with your director and with your other actors, and you have to really have an understanding of where it may go and what it might be, but also allow different things to pop in or pop out, like someone forgetting a line, or doing something unexpected.”

‌Boiling Point airs on Sunday, April 6, at 10.40pm on Channel 4 and channel4.com
