Normally £499.99, Shark has reduced the vacuum by hundreds

Shark and Argos are currently engaged in a price war with one undercutting the other on a premium cordless vacuum cleaner. The Shark PowerDetect Cordless Pet Vacuum Cleaner is priced at £300 at Argos, while Shark is selling it for less at £299.

The better price is available over on the official Shark website, with both retailers chopping £200 off the original price of the vacuum. It normally retails for £499.99, although Argos has the original price listed as £320.

Shark’s PowerDetect model is described as “powerful, intelligent, deep-cleaning” with a dual-brush system that uses sensors to detect the surface it’s cleaning. This then chooses the ideal motor speed to pick up as much dirt from the floor as possible.

It can sense edges, corners, and different floor types, increasing suction when necessary. Unlike many rival vacuums, this model effectively picks up dirt when pulled backward as well as forward, and the ‘Anti Hair Wrap Plus’ feature removes hair from the brush roll while it cleans.

This makes it ideal for pet owners, especially with the included motorized pet tool that helps remove hair from upholstery. The Shark has a long-lasting battery that can run for up to 70 minutes, with a charge level displayed on an LED screen that also shows the ‘Dirt Detection’ feature.

Another feature is the ‘Flexology’ wand, which allows the vacuum to bend for cleaning under furniture or fold over for compact, freestanding storage, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Shark is not the only brand having a spring sale; Amazon has reduced prices across some of its Dyson range, including a 13% discount on the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute, now available for £339.

For a more affordable option, the 4.8-star rated Smoture Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is available for £169.99 on Amazon. It is said to “compete well” with higher-end brands due to its “powerful” suction.

Meanwhile, the Shark PowerDetect Cordless Pet Vacuum Cleaner holds a 4.3-star rating from Shark customers. One five-star review said: “Better than my Dyson. The vacuum feels well made and has much better suction than my Dyson; it vacuums to the edges and provides a deeper clean.

“With three dogs, we needed a vacuum that can handle all the hair. The anti-hair wrap function works really well. The battery life is impressive, allowing me to clean our four-bedroom house in one go.”

Another reviewer stated: “Shark’s PowerDetect cordless is fantastic. I bought this to replace my Dyson ball, and it is superior in every way. The suction is exceptional, aided by smart sensors, and it’s very easy to use. There’s no cord to get in the way, and the charge lasts long enough to clean our entire house with battery capacity to spare.”
