Quick overview:
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has scored 30 goals for Galatasaray this season and is due to leave Italy permanently in the summer transfer window
Manchester United are reportedly not considering a move for Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window if they do not sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.
MEN Sport reported on Wednesday that Delap, alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha, were the first key targets for Ruben Amorim in the summer transfer window. The club plan to offset the signings by selling Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony.
Former Manchester City youngster Delap is seen as a particularly promising addition thanks to his age, Premier League experience and his relatively low price tag of £30m if Ipswich’s relegation to the Championship is confirmed. Cunha, meanwhile, is believed to have a £62.5m release clause in his contract at Wolves.
Earlier this week, reports in Italy claimed that United had reached an agreement with Napoli to trigger Osimhen’s release clause this summer. Tuttosport claimed the Reds were now willing to spend £64m for the Nigerian and send Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli as part of the arrangement.
However, in a twist to the plot, The Athletic’s David Ornstein refuted these claims on NBC Sports prior to Arsenal’s clash with Crystal Palace.
“If Manchester United are to look at others, I’m assured it will not be Victor Osimhen – despite reports you might be reading,” he explained.
“He is not on the agenda for United. They will have other options because they might have to turn to them, or they could stick with internal solutions, such as a Rasmus Hojlund, and they focus on other positions.”
After having a blunt attack this season with Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling in the Premier League, forwards are seen as a priority. However, question marks remain in midfield and in the goalkeeper position after the pressure Andre Onana has been under.
