Aston Villa could reportedly look to take advantage of Kevin De Bruyne’s departure from Manchester City at the end of the season.

City made the decision not to renew De Bruyne’s contract after ten years at the Etihad. The midfielder announced earlier this month that he would be leaving the club when his deal expires in the summer.

According to Sky Sports, Villa have been alert to De Bruyne’s situation and are said to have held ‘internal discussions’ about making an approach.

The Belgian is also believed to be attracting interest from Major League Soccer, with four clubs – Inter Miami, who hold his discovery rights, along with Chicago Fire, NYCFC, and D.C. United – having made enquiries.

Meanwhile, Serie A side Como are also exploring the possibility of signing the 33-year-old.

De Bruyne’s reluctance to uproot his family, along with his focus on balancing football and home life, is thought to have also put several Premier League clubs on alert.

The Belgian admitted being shocked at the club’s decision not to renew his contract after not being offered fresh terms. There is also uncertainty over whether he will be involved in this summer’s Club World Cup.

“I have not had any offer the whole year, they just took a decision,” he said. “I was a bit surprised but I just have to accept it. It’s fine. Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level, like I’m showing. The decision has been taken and since then I just want to play football like I always have. I need to look at the future, start speaking to people.

“I have to accept the situation, even if I feel like I can still do a good job, but that’s it. I have to accept people taking decisions, I told them also, I feel like I still have a lot to give. Obviously I know I’m not 25 any more, but I still feel like I can do my job.”
