A major search operation is taking place on a residential street following a suspected shooting.

Officers were called out to William Lister Close, in Newton Heath, late on Monday night (April 21).

Police have taped off a section of the street outside a number of houses, while specialist officers have worked at the scene.

A search dog has been used to scour the area this morning (Tuesday).

Several officers wearing white forensic suits also arrived in a Tactical Aid Unit van before carrying out a fingertip search.

Greater Manchester Police says enquiries are ongoing and witnesses are being urged to come forward.

A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 10.20pm last night, we were called to reports of a suspected firearms discharge on William Lister Close in Newton Heath, north Manchester.

“Thankfully no injuries were sustained.

“No arrests have been made and a scene remains in place whilst officers conduct enquiries.

“Anyone with any information that could assist us with our investigation is asked to call 0161 856 1146 or 101 quoting incident 3145 of April 21, 2025.”
