Here’s what you need to know:
Aaron Hinsley has now been jailed
A man consumed by rage and jealousy brutally stabbed his ex-partner’s male friend after discovering him hidden in her wardrobe. The violence unfolded when Aaron Hinsley, who had previously threatened to harm any new man in his former girlfriend’s life, broke into her home.
The woman hid her friend in the wardrobe but when Hinsley opened the wardrobe door, he ferociously attacked the man with a knife.
He has now been jailed for wounding with intent, aggravated burglary, and stalking offences.
At Newcastle Crown Court, it was revealed that Hinsley had ended his four-year relationship with the woman the month before, in September 2024. Prosecutor Sam Faulks said: “Following the end of the relationship, the defendant threatened to hurt any new partner she may take.”
On October 9, the victim began receiving menacing messages from Hinsley, including threats against any new man in her life, reports Chronicle Live.
The woman twice kept Hinsley from her home that same night, telling him during one confrontation around midnight that she had alerted the police. Although he left and the police could not find him at 2.30am, Hinsley continued to harass the woman through text messages.
Later that evening, her male friend paid a visit to her house, only for a flurry of calls from Hinsley to follow an hour later.
Mr Faulks said: “She then heard a loud kicking and banging as he tried to enter her property. She tried to phone the police but was shaking with fear and held onto (the man). The defendant kicked the front door in and broke in.”
The woman and her friend fled to her bedroom, where she told him to hide in her wardrobe. Hinsley ignored her pleas for him to leave and Mr Faulks added: “He opened the bedroom wardrobe and found (the man).
“The defendant pulled out a knife from his trouser pocket and pushed him down onto a pile of clothes. The first stab pierced the skin on his shoulder. There were four or five stabbing motions.”
In an attempt to intervene, the woman positioned herself between the two men but Hinsley lunged around her, stabbing the other man in the eyebrow area.
Hinsley also attacked the victim before filming him on his phone. He then departed, damaging a TV in his wake.
The victim sustained injuries to the top of his head, just below his eyebrow and arm, along with soft tissue swelling. He has been left with sleep issues, requiring counselling, feels unable to return to Blyth and is fearful of Hinsley.
Mr Faulks revealed that the woman’s two children, one of whom she shares with Hinsley, were present in the house during the attack.
Hinsley admitted to wounding with intent, aggravated burglary and stalking, resulting in a prison sentence of five years and nine months. In addition to his jail term, he was also issued a lifelong restraining order.
Ian Cook, who defended Hinsley, stated that his client had resorted to illegal drugs as a form of “self-medication” instead of taking prescribed medication. “That led to paranoia and anger and led him to behave in the manner which has caused great concern towards his former partner and her friend,” he explained.
“In a fit of jealous rage, no doubt fuelled by drugs an alcohol, he has behaved in the way outlined.”
Mr Cook further revealed that Hinsley has secured a trusted role in prison as a cleaner on his wing.
