Chido Obi has revealed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has told him to “be humble and keep working hard every day”.

Obi has enjoyed first-team exposure this season and he could be set for more opportunities in the league with United set to prioritise the Europa League.

The youngster is not eligible to play in Europe after United decided against registering him for their Europa League squad. With Joshua Zirkzee out injured for the rest of the season, Rasmus Hojlund is United’s only senior striker option and so Obi may be called upon in the league should Amorim decide to rest Hojlund ahead of Europa League outings.

Obi made his debut for United against Tottenham in February and has gone on to make another four appearances for the club. Having been handed his maiden United appearance by Amorim, Obi has now revealed the advice he has been given by the United boss.

“He’s just told me to be humble and keep working hard every day,” he told United’s in-house media team.

“And hopefully I get more opportunities soon. My Dad and my Mum always told me to be a good person and listen to my coaches because they want me to get better, so it’s good.

“I’ve learnt to be smart and to think quicker by training with the first team because the game is quicker compared to academy football. It helps me a lot, training with them every day.”

Harry Amass has also enjoyed a breakthrough campaign having made his long-awaited debut for the club against Leicester last month.

The left-back made his first senior start at Old Trafford on Sunday and he explained how his wait to make his debut helped him mature.

“It’s helped me grow as a person and as a player, but especially off the pitch, just growing up as a young lad and trying to turn into a man,” he said.

“Next is just to keep working hard, to show that people can trust me, to show I’m a good person off the pitch as well as a good player. To give my best, to try and play, and to get more minutes.”
