Victor Osimhen has acknowledged ongoing speculation surrounding his future amid links to Manchester United.
Osimhen is currently on loan with Galatasaray but is due to return to Napoli at the end of this season. However, a permanent departure from the Serie A side seems inevitable during this summer transfer window.
The striker signed a new contract in Naples soon after the switch to Turkey, extending his deal by another year to 2027 while – reportedly – almost halving his release clause. After being priced at circa £113million as recently as last year, it’s now thought to be around £65million ahead of this summer.
He, however, has said his focus remains on this season, with Galatasaray in a strong position to retain their Super Lig title while also being in the Turkish Cup semi-finals. “There are always rumours about me, of course, but I prefer to live in the moment,” he told local reporters after scoring the second in a 2-0 win over Samsunspor.
“I am enjoying myself right now; I am enjoying both the club and my life here.
“The fans have also been incredibly supportive since the first day.
“All stakeholders within Galatasaray, everyone has helped me. They have always been there for me – and not just for me but also for my friends and family. Now I will fight for the fifth star with my team.”
Winning the league this season would be their 25th triumph – allowing them to add another star above their club crest in recognition of their domestic achievements.
Reflecting on his future, Osimhen said: “A decision will be made at the end of the season about what will be best for everyone. Galatasaray will forever be in my heart.”
The league season will finish on June 1, with the cup final scheduled for mid-May. Galatasaray currently have a six-point gap over Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, having played first this weekend.
