Manchester United could have a potential dilemma should they decide to sign Victory Osimhen.

United are continuing to be linked with a move for Osimhen as the summer transfer window approaches. The striker signed for Galatasaray last summer on loan for the season from Napoli and continues to be linked with a transfer when the window opens at the end of the season.

The last few months has seen United heavily linked with signing a striker to compete with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund. Osimhen is one of the names to be mentioned as a potential target for United on the rumour mill, with the striker’s future likely to be the subject of intense speculation in the months ahead.

Should United agree a deal with Napoli to sign Osimhen in the summer, either on loan or on a permanent basis, it would add another striker option to Ruben Amorim’s squad. However, thanks to a decision made by FIFA, it could also present a challenge to United for next season.

The Africa Cup of Nations will take place later this year, with Morocco the host country for the tournament. The competition will begin on December 21 and run until January 18, which will be in the middle of the Premier League season.

As a result, players from clubs across the Premier League and the rest of the world will link up with their respective national teams during this time. Osimhen will hope to be one of those players as he looks to feature for Nigeria in the competition.

AFCON was originally scheduled to be played this summer following the conclusion of the Premier League season. However, FIFA moved the tournament to later in the year to make room for the expanded Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States across June and July.

As a result, if United were to sign Osimhen, they would be without the striker for up to a month in the middle of next season. It remains to be seen how many matches the striker would be unavailable for, with potential Champions League and Carabao Cup matches on the calendar, alongside Premier League games and an FA Cup third-round tie in that time.
