Netflix viewers are ‘highly recommending’ other viewers watch a new sitcom that explores the culture of Indigenous people living in the Arctic.

North of North was released on Netflix on April 10 and has already received a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes with fans gushing on social media about how much they recommend the ‘heartwarming’ new sitcom.

The new comedy series, produced by Canadian company CBC, revolves around 26-year-old Inuk woman Siaja, played by Anna Lambe, who ends her (very public) marriage and moves back in with her mother Neevee, played by Maika Harpe, to begin her journey of self discovery.

North of North aims to offer a fresh perspective on Indigenous life in the Arctic and it showcases traditional Inuit culture such as clothing and customs, and features an indigenous cast and Inuit creators.

Fans of the new show have rushed to social media to share their excitement about North of North. Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, @DigitaItrinkets wrote: “everyone go watch north of north on netflix please, it’s so good I promise you won’t regret it!”

@Maorimoana said: “If you watch anything this month, make sure it’s North of North on Netflix. It’s an Indigenous comedy sitcom filmed in Iqaluit, Nunavut. It’s so wonderful to watch a show of Indigenous people just being who we are, without a major trauma storyline attached to it.”

@Tify330 wrote: “Highly recommend North of the North on Netflix. Loved learning about the Inuit culture. Such a fun and well written show.”, and @Nextjen added: “Highly enjoying North of North on Netflix”.

TV reviewer @modytalkmovies wrote on X: “A charming, cozy, and delightful series that is both hilarious and poignant. It is very entertaining and enjoyable but also filled with heartwarming moments. The writing is very strong, and the cast is great, especially Anna Lambe.”

A new Reddit thread has opened up to discuss the sitcom. Over on r/NorthOfNorth, @Alren commented: “They did such a great job with this show. Loved seeing my hometown and even some of the people I went to school with in it”.

Reddit user @Swonebros said: “Saw the all of the episodes of cbc gem. It’s pretty decent tho. The set pieces, wardrobe, filming, etc. was absolutely amazing. Gorgeous show. I would say 8.5/10. I would say episode 5 and 8 is the best.”

@Ginchy added: “As soon as I saw this I was hoping it was a trailer for season 2 already! Even though I just finished watching season 1 a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope more people will enjoy it since it’s going to be on Netflix now.”
