Here’s what you need to know:
Tesco shoppers have reported not being able to find some of the supermarket’s popular products in-store
Tesco has issued an update after shoppers took to social media to question the supermarket’s lack of a staple product.
Over the last few weeks, Tesco customers have been left confused after noticing a lack of canned beans in the supermarket
The confusion has left shoppers turning to social media to try and solve the mystery, as one X – formerly Twitter – user, @xlunahoney, posted: “Why is no one talking about the fact there is a bean shortage in @Tesco?”
Another X user, @gupster, added: “@Tesco what’s happening to your range of own brand tinned beans. Nothing is in stock for the last few weeks?”
Responding to the confusion, Tesco have now explained that the store has been experiencing temporary availability issues on a small number of their own brand bean lines, but they have not explained the reason behind this.
The supermarket also gave no indication of when shoppers could expect to see shelves fully re-stocked, but did assure customers that the store’s own brand beans in tomato sauce are unaffected by the supply issues.
Shoppers instead have reported not being able to find cans of the supermarket’s own brand of kidney brands, black beans, butter beans, cannellini beans and chickpeas on Tesco shelves.
But with stocks being low for a number of weeks, shoppers have questioned the products return, with one Reddit user, @Sufficient-Two-3747, writing on the platform: “Tesco chickpeas in water have been out of stock for over 2 weeks now.”
They then added: “What’s going on? When are they coming back?”
Another Reddit user, @Defiant_Lawyer_5235, also said they had seen stock issues, claiming that black beans were “out of stock” in one store for “at least a week”.
A third shopper, @coraseaborne, added: “We don’t have any Tesco brand tinned chickpeas or beans/legumes of any sort. Just the expensive brands left.”
While other brands are available in stores, many customers prefer Tesco’s own-brand selection due to their affordability.
Many of Tesco’s own brand canned pulses, lentils and beans are just 49p including chickpeas, red kidney beans and black beans.
Shoppers can also find the Stockwell brand of baked beans in Tesco stores for as little as 28p, while shoppers looking for Heinz beans should expect to pay £1.40.
Availability issues also come after Tesco reported its highest market share for almost nine years.
