A man has been charged with sexual assault in Didsbury.

Ridmal Arachchige, 41, of Wilmslow Road, has been charged following reports of sexual assault in the early hours of Saturday morning (April 12).

According to Greater Manchester Police, the alleged incident at the weekend was ‘thoroughly investigated’.

Arachchige was later remanded and was due to appear at Stockport Magistrates Court on Thursday (April 17).

Detective Inspector Gary Kelly, from GMP’s Manchester district, said: “We take all reports of sexual assault incredibly seriously, and we thoroughly investigated the alleged incident of the weekend, which has now resulted in the arrest and charge of a man.

“I would urge anyone with any information to come forward as we continue our enquiries.”
