He is due to appear in court today

A man will appear in court charged with arson following a fire at a Salford care home.

Emergency services were called out to the Bradmere Care Home on Franklin Street, in Eccles, on Monday night (April 24).

Crews attended the scene at around 11pm. Greater Manchester Police has investigated the incident over the past few days.

In a statement issued this afternoon (Thursday), GMP confirmed a 63-year-old man had been charged in connection with the fire.

Paul Johnson, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of arson.

He is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court later today.

A GMP Salford spokesperson said: “Paul Johnson, of NFA, has been charged with two counts of arson in connection with a fire at Franklin Street, Eccles, on April 21, 2025, and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today following an investigation by Salford CID.”

Earlier this week, care home partner Meredith Knight said the welfare of staff and residents ‘remains our priority, with the support from the authorities’.
