Stacey Solomon shared her “strict” upbringing while her dad recalled how he felt protective over his daughters as they were growing up.

The new BBC series, Stacey & Joe, follows the family over a period of six months as they let cameras into their home, Pickle Cottage, for the first time.

Stacey and Joe first met in 2010 after the pair were both in Australia for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. The couple, who tied the knot in 2022, share three children, Rex, five, Rose, three, and Belle, two.

As well as their shared children, Joe also has a teenage son called Harry while Stacey is a mum to older boys Zachary and Leighton.

During the most recent episode that aired on Tuesday (15th April), Stacey was preparing her garden for a Halloween event.

Her father, David, was helping her put up decorations outside when the pair got into a discussion over Stacey’s childhood.

After Stacey announced that her dad hates Halloween, she added: “We didn’t celebrate Halloween growing up” before David interjected and said they used to go “around the houses”.

Stacey responded: “No, you used to tell us we’re not allowed to go round the houses, it’s like begging you said!”, to which he joked: “You just did it behind my back when I wasn’t looking.”

The camera then cut to an interview with just Stacey where she recalled: “So strict, they wouldn’t let us near anyone! We had to do all our homework, I mean I don’t think I had a phone for most of my teenage life.

“I found that level of strictness just a barrier that I wanted to break all the time. It almost became, like, a challenge… Dad says I can’t do that so I’m gonna sneak out and do it anyway.”

Going back to them in the garden, the dad and daughter reminisced on boys coming over to visit Stacey and her sister Jemma, but that they never returned after the first date, as her dad told them to “empty their pockets on the way out”.

David laughed as he shared: “The truth is, yes I did, I used to scare boys from the house because I was protecting my daughters. I didn’t want her to get pregnant early… That didn’t work did it? Best thing that ever happened.”

He went onto share that they didn’t have much money as a family but they “made it work”. Stacey praised her parents for working hard, and how it’s built her resilience today.
