Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim believes the starting line-up he has named against Lyon this evening is the “best XI” currently available to him.

The United boss has named the exact same line-up that started last week’s 2-2 draw in the first leg at the Groupama Stadium, meaning he has made five changes from Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Patrick Dorgu, Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro have been recalled to the starting XI. Amorim confirmed at Wednesday’s pre-match press conference that Onana would return in goal after being left out of the squad at the weekend.

Amorim told TNT Sports: “I think we did well. I think also that we can do better, and that is why we have worked this week to do better.

“Also, we have some players that cannot start. We need to think about every possibility, extra-time and all these things when we have a busy schedule. We think about every situation of the game and I felt that this is the best XI.”

Onana was guilty of committing two mistakes against Lyon a week ago, meaning he will be keen to atone for his errors tonight. Amorim has said all he needs to do is focus on having “a good game”.

“I think he just needs to focus on doing a good game,” he added. “He is a professional, he is our player and is in the starting XI.”
