Work on the brand new housing estate is expected to be completed in the summer

A brand new estate in Salford has been targeted by “senseless vandals.” Windows were smashed and a gate was destroyed at the development in Mayfield Avenue, Walkden.

Social housing developers ForHousing, who are behind the project, say that it is ‘moving quickly’ to carry out repairs and help police with the investigation regarding the incident. The 18-home development comprises 12 one-bedroom homes and six-two bedrooms for social rent.

Work is still being carried out on the scheme which costs £3.2 million to build with £1.3 million external funding from Homes England. The work is set to be completed in the summer.

Nigel Sedman, executive director of homes at ForHousing, said: “We are deeply disappointed by this senseless act of vandalism to the newly built homes at Mayfield Avenue.

“We’re moving quickly to carry out repairs and have already taken steps to further tighten security on site. We are also working closely with the police to support their investigation.”

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
