Quick overview:
BBC Radio 2 star Rylan Clark shared an insight into his beauty regime, admitting he has added a popular supplement to the host of creams and serums he uses every day
Rylan admitted to being “on the sachets” as he revealed he has turned to a popular supplement to enhance his beauty regime.
The star made the admission as he was talking to Sweet Female Attitude singer Leanna Brown. Speaking on his Radio 2 show, Rylan said: “You look 12 darlin’ – what are you using? You don’t look a day over 20.”
Leanna, 46, revealed she uses thick make-up and collagen drinks before Rylan said: “Same! I’m on the old sachets.”
Sharing a further insight into her beauty regime Leanne added: “Very, very thick Nivea. You go for the old ones, you can have your expensive ones, I’ve got all of those but I just let them go off, because they don’t do what the Nivea does for me.”
Rylan has previously revealed the secrets behind his daily beauty regime in a post on his YouTube channel. The star uses 14 different make-ups, serums, and moisturisers in the morning to get ready.
As well as his daily beauty regime, Rylan’s quest to perfect his looks saw him get £25,000 veneers a decade ago. The star however had them taken out and a new, smaller set, put in three years ago.
“I got my veneers [teeth] finished the day before I started hosting Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, my first presenting job,” he recalled to Notebook magazine back in 2017.
“My mouth was swollen from the anaesthetic, they were brilliant-white, brand new. That was the first night everyone saw them , and all people did was take the p**s out of my teeth.
“So no one realised I was a s**t presenter, and by the time they stopped talking about my teeth a few months later, I’d got better at the job.”
Rylan first rose to fame after taking part in the X Factor in 2012. The following January he was whisked into the Celebrity Big Brother, finishing champion ahead of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.
He has since gone on to present shows such as Xtra Factor, This Morning, The Eurovision Song Contest and Dating Naked. In 2019 he was unveiled as a presenter on BBC Radio 2, taking over from Zoe Ball.
Health benefits of collagen
Many people have found themselves turning to collagen powder for its anti-ageing properties. A 2021 study found that 90 days of collagen use can help to reduce the signs of wrinkles, improve skin hydration and elasticity.
Scientists from the Harvard Medical School believe people are turning to collagen because it provides “crucial support” for the tissue in our bodies. The body naturally produces collagen from foods such as bone broth, meat and fish.
However aging, sun damage, smoking and alcohol consumption can all reduce the body’s natural ability to produce the protein. Collagen supplements often contain the protein from various sources such as fish, cattle, pigs, or chicken.
Are there side effects of taking collagen?
Scientific studies have noted no major side effects of taking collagen supplements. A 2022 study said: “There have been no side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, or constipation reported in the treatment or control groups of any of the studies.”
However scientists are divided on whether it offers major long-term health benefits. A study said: “The findings of this study revealed that HC supplementation can improve skin hydration and elasticity.
“In addition, the long-term use of collagen yields more favorable effects on skin hydration and elasticity than the short-term use of collagen. Nevertheless, large-scale randomized control trials are required to examine the clinical benefits of oral collagen supplements.”
If you are concerned about taking collagen, or are on prescribed medications, pharmacists recommend you should speak to your GP beforehand.
