Manchester United are preparing for one of the biggest transfer windows of their recent history this summer following a season of turnover, turmoil and disappointment.

United are on course to record their worst-ever Premier League finish, the previous was last campaign’s eighth-placed standing under Erik ten Hag. They crashed out of both domestic cups in the early rounds and have all their eggs in the Europa League to end the season on a high.

Much is being made of the upcoming transfer window, the first for Amorim with significant meaning. Profitability and Sustainability rules (PSR) meant the January window offered very little wriggle room for any noticeable arrivals but the summer is a different sort.

“We need to be really good in recruitment,” Amorim said in his press conference ahead of Manchester City. “We need to know our system, the way we play, and the players have to be perfect for that position.

“We know what to do, we will see next season.”

Injuries have been a problem for Amorim since his first day at Carrington and the issues haven’t improved much. Despite being without Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Amad for the majority of his short reign at the club, Amorim has discovered the best from his players.

Through injuries, the United boss has been forced to play players in unusual positions within his 3-4-3 system. Fortunately, two players in particular have seemingly adapted better than expected, taking the pressure off spending millions on new signings in those positions.

“I’m really excited for next season and I’m already really stressed for next season because I put a lot of pressure on us,” he added. “We’ve had a lot of bad luck with injuries, but you can look at the Premier League, everybody had some injuries, so I don’t like to focus on that.

“Then, sometimes when you have an injury, you find something that is going to be important in the future. I found out Garna [Alejandro Garnacho] can play on the right, Ayden [Heaven] is ready to stay in our squad and maybe we can change the way we go into the market.”

MEN Sport understands that the club will attempt to axe 10 permanent departures this summer as part of their overhaul.

PSR restraints do mean that United have to act considerate in their own business meaning Garnacho’s versatility and Heaven’s emergence have come at the perfect time, meaning the club will likely focus on other areas of the pitch.
