Here’s what you need to know:
Man Utd loanee Marcus Rashford scored for Aston Villa against Manchester City at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
Manchester United legend Roy Keane believes Marcus Rashford is “impossible to stop” in his current form.
Rashford has rediscovered his form since joining Aston Villa on loan in the winter window, and the forward calmly converted a penalty against Manchester City at the Etihad on Tuesday.
The United loanee has contributed four goals and six assists for Aston Villa and was recently recalled to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel. Rashford is playing with confidence again, and Keane praised his improvement when he spoke in the Sky Sports studio after City’s win against Villa.
“He was a threat tonight,” said Keane. “He had a really big chance in the second half but when there is grass in front of him he is as good as any player. Ask the defenders, he is a nightmare. It is almost impossible to stop.”
Keane describing Rashford as “impossible to stop” comes just three months after he said that the 27-year-old should be “ashamed” for underperforming in training at Carrington.
In January, Keane heavily criticised Rashford before his United departure and said: “I can’t get involved in the conversation, I still can’t understand at any level. Whatever’s going on with players leaving, months left on contracts, a player who doesn’t train properly… I don’t understand it.
“You might as well leave me out of this conversation. Especially if you think he wants to move, which is more of a reason to train properly so when you go to a new club you’re up to speed and when you leave the club at least you showed a decent attitude. He must be ashamed.”
Unai Emery has been pleased with Rashford since his arrival in Birmingham, and he said on Tuesday: “I am so, so happy with him. He is performing very well. His commitment with the teammates and the process we are having has been very important for us and for him. Keep going.”
John McGinn praised Rashford’s commitment ahead of facing City and told Sky Sports: “He’s used to being in the spotlight, used to being under pressure. In these games, he’s thrived under it.
“He’s really enjoying it – it’s nice to see him every day with a smile. I think it’s very easy to look at the negative press that surrounds Marcus and has done for a while and be judged by that.
“But you judge with your own eyes. You judge how he is about the place to people and I must say he’s been first-class both on and off the pitch. Very good guy, humble, hard-working. All the things you read that you don’t expect to see.”
Villa have the option to sign Rashford permanently for £40million at the end of the season.
