Here’s what you need to know:
The latest Manchester United news as Roy Keane offers a brutal take on Ruben Amorim’s side.
Roy Keane has rubbished claims that Manchester United have shown “signs of progress” under Ruben Amorim in recent weeks.
United went into March’s international break on the back of a promising run of form, which included a draw with Arsenal, a 3-0 thumping over Leicester City and progress to the Europa League quarter-finals.
However, they suffered a first Premier League defeat since the middle of February on Tuesday night when they lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. Since then, Amorim has discussed his side’s ambition to improve in the future, suggesting he wanted “one or two” big signings this summer to ramp up their progress.
Before Sunday afternoon’s Manchester derby against Manchester City, Keane was asked about his thoughts on United’s progress in recent weeks. The former midfielder was strong in his reply, disagreeing with Amorim. Asked whether it was clear that they were taking positive steps, he said: “Not from what we’re seeing.
“Whether he’s seeing something on the training ground and getting a bit more fight and spirit. I don’t see it in the games I’ve watched recently. Going back to the Forest game, they got a few plaudits for being neat and tidy, nice and tidy in possession.
“When they say they’re neat and tidy. What the hell does that mean?
“It’s really important to score goals in football and United’s goal record, especially the attacking players they have got aren’t doing the business. That’s where they’ve been really lacking.
“If you look at the goals for… Wolves have scored more goals! That’s a huge problem… They’re not dynamic, they’re not mobile. They showed a little bit of spirit against Arsenal, but the standard of the game wasn’t great.
“There was no edge to it. I don’t see where the manager is coming from so I wouldn’t agree on that. I’m not seeing that much progress.
“The fact is they don’t dig in. They’ve lost 13 matches this year – and 14 last – so even when they don’t win matches they don’t dig in, they don’t roll their sleeves up, I don’t like the spine of the team.
“But having said that I think they’ll get a result, it’s a derby and hopefully they’ll find some sort of spark.”
