Here’s what you need to know:
Antony is on loan from Manchester United to Real Betis until the end of the season, but after that his future remains uncertain
Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted he would ‘be happy’ to keep Manchester United loanee Antony at the club for the 2025/26 campaign.
The Brazilian joined the Spanish outfit on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window after two-and-a-half years of struggles playing for Man United. It is a move that so far looks to have paid off, and Antony’s latest contribution on Monday night was a huge goal that helped Betis beat Girona and move within one point of La Liga’s qualification places for the Champions League.
Interviewed by DAZN afterwards and quoted by Marca, his temporary boss Pellegrini was asked about the possibility of keeping the 25-year-old for one more year.
“Well, we’ll see what happens next season. We have 18 points left, six more games this season, and also the [Europa Conference] Conference semi-final,” explained the former Manchester City manager.
“I see Antony very involved in the team, in the group, in the institution. We would all be happy if he stayed, but now we have to focus on the present, and the present is Valladolid.”
In 17 outings since his January switch, Antony has scored five times and assisted a further four goals for teammates. Playing under Erik ten Hag in England and then Ruben Amorim briefly, he managed only 12 strikes and five assists during his entire time at United.
When reporting the loan’s confirmation, MEN Sport clarified that the agreement does not contain an option for Antony’s move to be made permanent this summer. This means he is due to return to Man United at the end of the six months.
If the Spaniards do make official their desire to keep Antony for longer then they will have to enter new negotiations when the summer transfer window opens
