Manchester United are among the clubs linked with Lyon starlet Rayan Cherki

Rio Ferdinand believes Lyon star Rayan Cherki will move to a bigger club in the future amid Manchester United transfer links.

The 21-year-old has been the subject of speculation linking him with a move to some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including those in the Premier League with the French club said to be suffering financially.

Cherki is one of the prized assets at Lyon and continued to show why he has been touted as one of the next big imports to the English top-flight during the dramatic Europa League defeat against Manchester United.

The France under-21 international got on the scoresheet with a brilliant drilled effort into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead before Alexandre Lacazette extended their advantage to two.

Ultimately, it wasn’t to be for the Ligue 1 outfit after Ruben Amorim’s side staged a memorable comeback.

For Cherki, it was a promising dress rehearsal following a Daily Mail report which claims that Manchester United are among the clubs interested in his services.

It has been suggested that there is a verbal agreement that he can leave the club, should the £25million fee be met.

But Amorim’s side is not the only one in the queue for his signature, the report claims that Europe’s elite clubs are in the hunt including Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

And former Reds defender Ferdinand believes he will earn a move to one of the top clubs in the region soon.

He told TNT Sports: “There’s going to be clubs in for him, it’s obvious, look at the amount assists in all comps, he’s third on that list and he’s sitting up there in some good company.

“Listen, he’ll go to a bigger and better club than Lyon, no disrespect. I’m really interested in seeing when he does go, does he level up?

“He’s that number 10 player that you’ve got to give him a bit of a free role, you’ve got to give him the ability to roam.

“If you play him on the right wing, he’s not an out-and-out winger who’ll go on the outside of the full-back, give him that license to come in and drift and ask the defender questions.”
