Officers said there was a “strong smell” coming from the car
£60,000 worth of cannabis was found in a shopping bag during a traffic stop on the M6. A silver Mercedes C220 was stopped on the motorway close to Charnock Richard Services at 10.25pm on Wednesday (April 9).
Officers said there was a “strong smell of cannabis coming from the car” and they searched it under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. A bag for life filled with class B drugs worth around £60,000 was soon found.
The driver, a 34 year old man from Cardiff, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drug, driving while disqualified, and failing to provide a breath test.
The passenger, a 29-year-old man from Cardiff, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs. They both remain in custody for questioning, reports LancasLive.
In a statement, Chorley Police said: “We want to let you know about another stop our Road Crime Team made last night in Chorley. At 10:25pm last night officers stopped a Silver Mercedes C220 on the M6 hard shoulder (southbound) close to Charnock Richard Services.
“With a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car, officers searched it under section 23 of the misuse of drugs act and found a bag for life filled with cannabis worth approximately £60,000.
“The driver, a 34 year old man from Cardiff, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs, driving whilst disqualified, and failing to provide a breath test.
“The passenger, a 29 year old man from Cardiff was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs. They are currently in custody.”
