Phil Foden’s grandmother has spoken out regarding the vile chanting heard during the recent Manchester derby. Foden, 24, could be seen gesticulating towards sections of Old Trafford during the 0-0 draw last weekend.

United supporters chanted at Foden regarding his mother with the FA admitting they would take no action against the Red Devils. Grandmother Mary Keates, spoke to MailOnline earlier this week and quickly shamed fans for their chants towards the 24-year-old’s mother, Claire Rowlands.

“It really upset me and the whole of the family, it’s disgusting,” began Keates. “It really hurt to hear what was being shouted by the fans about Claire.

“These people need to have a good look at themselves. Claire is a wonderful woman and mother. I don’t want to say too much because it makes me so angry and makes me feel sick.”

Pep Guardiola also leapt to the defence of his midfielder, admitting the chants said more about the individuals than the club.

“It’s a lack of class,” said Guardiola. “But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know? We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football: managers, owners, and football players especially.

“Honestly, I don’t understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.”

Mary, 64, was married to Foden’s grandfather Walter who passed away in 2003 at the age of 47, which famously inspires the England international’s squad number.

Foden’s footballing wealth has transformed the fortunes of his entire family, with his net worth estimated to be in the region of approximately £10 million.

His form this season has been a continuing talking point, especially given he was named the PFA Player of the Year last term.

“This season we dropped incredibly. Not just Phil Foden but all of them,” Guardiola said after the draw at Old Trafford. “Last season, his impact was incredible. With him and chances it’s normally bang, bang. Just not at the moment. But the team is not playing at the level we had. And we were not at our level in this game.”
