The latest Manchester City news as the City man was the subject of chants from some sections of the Old Trafford crowd during Sunday’s derby
Manchester City star Phil Foden has taken to social media to send a message following the 0-0 draw with rivals Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Neither side could find the decisive goal in the stalemate at Old Trafford. The result leaves City in fifth place in the Premier League table, while United are in 13th position.
Foden started the encounter but was the subject of vile chants from sections of the United crowd which referred to the player’s mother. After the game, City boss Pep Guardiola hit back at the chants.
“Lack of class – but it’s not United, it’s the people,” he said. “We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football – managers, owners, and football players especially.
“I don’t understand the mind of the people talking about Phil’s mum. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.
“But it is what it is. It happens everywhere, not just in the UK.”
In what has been a difficult season for Foden so far, he again struggled to make an impact and was taken off after 58 minutes. The City man has since taken to social media to send a simple message following the game.
Sharing pictures of him during the game on Instagram, Foden added the caption: “We keep going” with a muscle emoji. He makes no reference to the chants in his post.
In the comments he has been supported by City teammates. Nico O’Reilly has written “My brother” with a red heart emoji.
Rico Lewis also replied with a light blue heart emoji, while Foden’s son, Ronnie, also replied with the same emoji. City legend Paul Dickov also replied with three light blue heart emojis.
So far this season, Foden has scored 10 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for City. He has, however, gone seven Premier League games without registering a goal or an assist.
He will look to change that when City are back in action on Saturday. Guardiola’s men host in-form Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium in the 12.30pm kick-off.
