Amanda Owen and three of her children made a heartbreaking discovery on the farm
During a heartbreaking episode of Our Yorkshire Farm that aired Saturday, Amanda Owen and her daughters were faced with the harsh realities of farm life amid one of the coldest springs.
Amanda, along with Annas, Clementine, and Nancy, ventured out to check on the well-being of their sheep and newborn lambs in the fields.
Tragically, they stumbled upon a deceased lamb that its mother had inadvertently neglected. A visibly concerned Amanda told her children, “Oh no,” before adding, “Here, look, I can see something, and it’s not good.”
Echoing her mother’s distress, one of the young girls responded, “Oh no,” upon sight of the dead lamb.
Amanda explained the unpredictable nature of farming to her daughters: “Sometimes you get mysteries, and sometimes you get an answer, and sometimes you don’t, but that’s your answer,” reports Leeds Live.

“This poor little newborn lamb,” she lamented while Clemmie interjected with empathetic sorrow, “That’s sad, isn’t it, mum?”
Amanda then deduced the likely events leading to the lamb’s untimely demise, saying, “What will have happened… Can you see where she lambed? She had her lamb there, had a nice drink of water, and her newborn lamb rolled into the water.”
Clemmie reflected on the possibility of the lamb’s survival with, “It could be good if it was still alive,” which prompted Amanda to respond, “Of course, it would be much better if it was still alive.”
The youngster, contemplating the cycle of life, remarked, “Everything has to die, including people.” Amanda affirmed this truth yet expressed regret, “You’re right. It is just such a shame because it didn’t have much of a life, did it?”
She addressed the camera, saying: “They have to have a good understanding of life and death. You can’t cloak that one away. You can’t sideline that one. You can’t dwell on it.
“They know that in that few moments when a lamb is born, that is a critical moment, and if they can help that process along, then good. They also get to see when that process doesn’t happen.”
Sadly, the Owen family is accustomed to witnessing the death of animals at Ravenseat Farm. In another memorable episode of their Channel 5 series, Amanda shared the heartbreaking loss of a puppy.
While walking her sheepdog Kate, Amanda revealed that Kate had given birth to a stillborn puppy.
She told the camera: “Clive went to let her out at dinner time, and her puppy was there stillborn. I’ve got to say, she seems absolutely fine. There’s never been any change in her mood, she’s never been off her food, so she was never even ill.”
Our Yorkshire Farm is available to watch on My5.
